The Sheridan Story Launches First Program in St. Paul at Wellstone Elementary
The Sheridan Story’s network of weekend food programs exists mainly in Minneapolis and the Minneapolis suburbs. However, approximately 73% of the kids in the Saint Paul Public School District are eligible for free/reduced lunch, indicating they are likely living in food insecurity. There is a clear need in Saint Paul to fill the weekend food gap, and The Sheridan Story is responding.
We have officially crossed the river, launching our first program in Saint Paul at Paul and Sheila Wellstone Elementary. Approximately 700 kids spanning Pre-K through 5th grade attend Wellstone, and some 94% of them are on free/reduced lunch.
Due to the generosity of the staff at Oak Grove Capital, a real estate lender in Saint Paul, we will begin the program at Wellstone by giving a bag of food each weekend to approximately 70 students, providing them with the nutrition they need over the weekends to learn and grow!
