The Sheridan Story Receives Grant, Strengthens Partnership with Hunger-Free Minnesota

The Sheridan Story began a conversation with Hunger-Free Minnesota in 2012 as we were first developing our multi-school platform. Over the next several months, Hunger-Free Minnesota provided valuable guidance and data from their Community Close-Up Data Analysis. This data enabled The Sheridan Story to focus our expansion on schools in areas with the greatest need.

As The Sheridan Story moved forward with our expansion plans, we were made aware of a Hunger-Free Minnesota grant opportunity. Hunger-Free Minnesota described that the funds were intended “to support efforts to create the ‘Food Shelf of the Future,’ including strengthening food shelf supply chain, providing more effective distribution through mobile programs and reaching underserved communities and populations including children and seniors.”

The Sheridan Story’s purpose seemed to fit the description of this grant perfectly, so we submitted an application and eagerly awaited a decision. We are excited to share that the Hunger-Free Minnesota grant committee selected The Sheridan Story as a grant recipient! To see all grant recipients, click here.

The Hunger-Free Minnesota grant will provide The Sheridan Story with the capacity to increase the number of school-to-community partnerships while allowing for the management of the food operations of the project as it grows, including sourcing, packaging events, storage, inventory control, and delivery.

We look forward to our continued partnership with Hunger-Free Minnesota and would like to offer a big “thank you” to Hunger-Free Minnesota as well as the following Minnesota-based companies who contributed to the grant’s funds:

General Mills Foundation
UnitedHealth Group
Cargill
