Ensuring the health and safety of our network during coronavirus

Our volunteers and employees form a network that is essential to fulfilling our mission of fighting child hunger. Caring for the health and safety of that network is essential as we continue supporting children during the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

We are continuously monitoring the situation, following the Minnesota Department of Health guidelines, and communicating regularly with our school and community program partners.

Here’s an overview of some of the other ways we’re working to keep our network healthy and safe.

Packing Event Volunteers

Since the pandemic began, we have continued packing bags at our warehouse with a small group of return volunteers to reduce exposure to volunteers and staff. We are continuously evaluating our volunteer events based on the current situation and are starting to open some volunteer events to the public.

Food Distribution Volunteers

With school closures, we have halted our distribution of food into children’s backpacks for our weekend food program through volunteers. This is a dynamic situation and we continue to revise plans as needed to ensure the health and safety of our network. Meanwhile, we are working with school district leadership and community partners to continue delivery of our food and ensure children have access to it.

Employees

We’ve taken many precautions to ensure the health and safety of our employees.  That includes:

• • Encouraging employees to work from home when possible
  • Requiring employees to stay home if they are experiencing symptoms
  • Rearranging our office and warehouse space to maximize social distancing between employees
  • Asking employees to follow all the same practices we’re asking our packing event volunteers to follow when they are in our facilities
