The Otto Bremer Trust funds additional $150,000 worth of meals

The Otto Bremer Trust continues to be a major partner in our response to the coronavirus crisis

The Otto Bremer Trust is providing an additional $150,000 to help The Sheridan Story respond to the ongoing and rising need for food in our community. This is the second time since the coronavirus crisis began that they’ve partnered by providing funding to alleviate the increase in food insecurity among children.

When the first announcement of school closures in Minnesota was made in mid-March, the Otto Bremer Trust was quick to respond to the expected rise in child food insecurity alongside with us. Anticipating the increased need for food, we put out an urgent call to our community. The Otto Bremer Trust was one of the first to join our efforts with $379,000 of emergency funding. This exceeded our initial goal of preparing 330,000 meals, which allowed us to swiftly meet the rising food gaps.

The need and access to nutritious food have since skyrocketed as the effects of COVID-19 take a toll on our community. More and more families are facing financial stresses as a result of businesses shuttering, unemployment surging, and schools remaining closed through the rest of the school year. Through generous funding from the Otto Bremer Trust and our community, we have been a reliable source of food for children and families in these difficult times.

But as we look ahead, especially to the summer, we expect continued disruptions to children’s lives. The Otto Bremer Trust has again stepped forward to continue supporting our coronavirus response. Their additional $150,000 grant is an investment in the children in our community. They join other committed supporters in our response to ensure children and families have food on the table this summer.

With partners like the Otto Bremer Trust, we are able to quickly adapt to the ever-changing situation. Children and families are not alone during these uncertain times because of the work that we are able to accomplish together.
