Winter Meal Program
Every Meal launches Winter Meal Program to meet kids in need where they are!
Minnesota nonprofit fighting child hunger launches creative partnerships with area fire stations, libraries, the YMCA, and more.
– Every Meal (formerly The Sheridan Story), the nonprofit fighting child hunger by filling food gaps that children face during weekends, summers, and extended breaks – continues to break down barriers to food access caused by the pandemic. Today, the organization announced the launch of its Winter Meal Program in Minnesota to give children and families easier ways to get the food they need – whether at their local library, faith community, fire station, school, or recreation center.
A new wave of school closures and statewide distance learning, economic challenges, and the upcoming holiday break means up to 300,000 kids may go hungry this winter. Every Meal hopes that new relationships forged with organizations across the metro area – including select YMCA locations, fire stations, faith communities, libraries, and the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board – will make it easier for kids and their families to get the nutritious and delicious food they need.
“This holiday season is a challenging time for everyone, but for kids facing food insecurity, it is an especially hard situation” said Rob Williams, founder and executive director of Every Meal. “Our Winter Meal Program goes beyond our standard in-school programming to meet kids in
even more community locations. We’re thankful for our partners’ support in helping to serve the children in our community.”
Every Meal is a 100% community-funded organization, and there are no income requirements or paperwork needed for a family to benefit from their programming – children and families can simply stop at the drop-site nearest them and pick up the food they need. A list of drop-sites can be found at www.everymeal.org/winter.
To continue providing 50,000 meals per week to Minnesota kids this winter, Every Meal needs the community’s help. For every $100 donated, the organization can feed 25 children. To contribute, please visit www.everymeal.org/donate.
About Every Meal (formerly The Sheridan Story)
300,000 children in Minnesota are living in food insecurity, meaning they don’t always know if they’ll have food for their next meal. In order to fight this devastating reality, Every Meal focuses on filling these food gaps, or times throughout the year when children aren’t able to receive free and reduced meal programs at school. Since its inception in 2010, Every Meal has grown from serving one school with a weekend food program to implementing multiple food gap programs serving over 10,000 children across 400 locations, and to date has provided 6.5 million meals to children in need.
