Enrollment is up
“Enrollment is up.” That’s a text I received last week from Lindsey, our Director of Programs. She was referring to the number of kids who have signed up to receive our food bags as part of our Weekend Meal Program. About a month into the school year, we have seen 2,000 more kids per week asking for our food support – and we need your help.
This 33.85% increase highlights the significant need kids are facing in our community and our role in supporting them nutritionally. However, it also creates the need for Every Meal to buy and pack more food so we can serve these kids. Two key ways you can help is by donating and volunteering.
DONATE:
To ensure these kids have the food they need to learn and grow, we need to buy an additional $300,000 of food in the next 2.5 months alone.
A friend of Every Meal has generously stepped up with a FLASH MATCH OF $50,000. All gifts, of any size, will be doubled between now and October 31.
Your gift today will help us get food to kids facing hunger right here in Minnesota. It costs $323 to provide one kid with a weekly bag of nutritious food. Earning this match will support 310 of these kids for the full school year. By donating today, you are providing the assurance that they’ll have good meals on the weekends.
VOLUNTEER:
More kids not only means buying more food, it also means packing more food bags. To meet the increased need, we are going through our current food bag inventory quickly. We have an urgent need for volunteers to pack more bags.
If you have two hours to volunteer, please consider signing up for one of our volunteer packing events in October, November, and December. There are lots of options for days and times, so sign up for a spot that works for you – and share the need with family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and anyone you think shares our mission of fighting child hunger.
These aren’t just numbers, we’re talking about real food for real kids – right here in Minnesota – who are facing empty kitchen cupboards at home. The good news in all of this is that together we have the ability to solve it, but we need support from you and our amazing community to buy the food to fill this need.
We are 100% community funded, which means that we do not receive any government assistance – your donation is critical in our ability to fight child hunger.
