Filling the Summer Food Gap

We’ve worked hard over the last several years to fill the weekend gap, and with your partnership we’ve been able to expand our weekend food program to over 190 schools in Minnesota, serving over 5,000 kids per week!

However, there are other food gaps, and the next one we are going to fight is Summer Break.

Children’s need for food doesn’t stop at the end of the school year, of the over 500,000 children in MN that participate in school meal programs, only 90,000 have access to summer food programming.

We aim to change that and you can help by donating today!

This summer we will be concurrently running four summer programs:

  • Weekend food bags – weekend food packs to students attending summer school in a number of school districts across the Twin Cities
  • Minnesota Department of Education Migrant Schools – weekend food bags distributed to students at MDE’s Migrant Worker Summer Schools in rural Minnesota
  • Produce gardens and distributions – produce from community gardens run by our friends at Surly and Dangerous Man breweries, distributed to a number of students in the Minneapolis Public Schools
  • Community meal distribution pilot program – every Saturday and Sunday TSS will provide meals at a park in Roseville in coordination with a local church

We are excited and motivated by the opportunity to get nutritious, substantive food to kids during the summer. Your contribution helps make it happen!

Please consider making a financial contribution to The Sheridan Story today as we embark on this new chapter in our quest to fight child hunger!

Thank you!
