Volunteer Spotlight: Garden Extraordinaire Terry
This summer, we want to spotlight our wonderful volunteer Terry. He’s a garden extraordinaire, and we’re so lucky he’s sharing his time and talents in our Grow & Give garden during the summer growing season. It makes the fresh produce we give to families even more special, knowing that it’s grown and tended to by caring hands. Thank you Terry!

Q: Tell us about yourself and your volunteer roles at Every Meal?
A: My name is Terry and I have been volunteering at Every Meal for I think three years now. I started out helping with the packing and I volunteered in the garden. And I’ve also arranged groups of University of Minnesota volunteers to come and pack.
Q: Why do you enjoy volunteering in the Grow & Give garden?
A: I have always been interested in food. I started being interested in gourmet cooking when I was about 5th grade, and we always had a garden at home every year in my life. I have been involved in several gardens lately. In addition to Every Meal, I have my own very large garden, part of which is used as a giving garden where I help organize a free farmers market in a public college facility. I also do prairie restoration type gardening. I’m doing that on a very large commercial septic mound to turn that into a pollinator garden.
Q: What was your favorite food as a child?
A: I love green beans, and I think I caught it from my dad. He used to say he could have green beans three meals a day every day.
